Corbyn, who was elected leader in September, told the Guardian newspaper he would vote against a “no-deal” Brexit.

“I am going to oppose a no-deal. It would be catastrophic for this country,” he said.

“It would mean the return of a hard border on the island of Ireland, the imposition of tariffs, the end of the common market, it would mean the end of the single market and the end of the customs union.”

Corbyn said he was “really concerned” about the impact of a no-deal Brexit on the economy and urged the government to “change its approach.”

“I am not going to let them drive us off a cliff,” he said.

“I will be voting against a no-deal because I think it would be catastrophic for this country. It would mean the return of a hard border on the island of Ireland, the imposition of tariffs, the end of the common market, it would mean the end of the single market and the end of the customs union.
